2008 POY: It’s Never too Early to Improve on Perfection

Now that the elections are under our collective belt, I wanted to chime in and ask our membership if there was anything about the 2007 POY that they felt needed improvement. After some soul searching and a simple analysis of the current software and hardware I am somewhat worried that our current OS9 based system and my poor tired powerbook might be reaching the end of their useful life.

With this in mind, I would like to strike up a conversation regarding any and all changes the leadership and membership might be interested in seeing in the hopes that good intentions are given time to develop into an even better contest next year.

Some of you may have also caught wind that I am changing jobs again for, what is it now…, the fifth time since 2004. It is my intention to, at this time, make an ironclad commitment to running the contest for another year. However, I am interested in finding someone who would like to learn the ropes and be my wing-man or wing-woman. Any interested party can contact me at ndpier@gmail.com

Until next time,

Nathan Pier

June 15th - Last day to enter

Today is the last day to enter NPPA’s monthly multimedia contest. I’ve seen some great work done lately from folks around the state. Entering take a few minutes tops. Video or audio slideshows. If you don’t want to enter, vote for your favorites or check out the previous month’s winners for some inspiration.

FOUR ON THE FLOOR: New WNPA officers in place

The WNPA officer elections went smoothly, so smoothly, in fact, that all four candidates up for election were unanimously nominated, negating the need for an election. Here are the four cool people who will be helping us out this year in an official capacity:

PRESIDENT: Tom Lynn, a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel staff photographer
for the past 22 years, Tom has been involved with WNPA throughout his
career. He served as vice-president on last year’s board.

VICE-PRESIDENT: Jonathan Daniel joined Getty Images/Sport 3 1/2 years ago as a full-time staff photographer after a 17-year career as a free-lance sports photographer based in Chicago. Daniel spent the early part of his career as an award-winning photographer for a suburban Chicago newspaper. Daniel recently relocated to New Berlin, Wisconsin after his wife, Jinger took a job on the faculty of the Medical College of Wisconsin. While still responsible for covering Chicago Sports, Daniel also spends time covering major sports in Wisconsin and the Midwest.

TREASURER:  Rick Wood, staff photographer at the Milwaukee Journal
Sentinel for 29 years. Rick has served as Treasurer of the WNPA for  many
years.

SECRETARY:  Tom Loucks, multimedia coordinator and chief photographer at the Daily Tribune in Wisconsin Rapids. He previously served as a board member.
