Hey guys,
I just got an email from Kathy Waite of Adobe. She was responsible for the terrific (and extremely generous) donation of two Photoshop CS3 software packages. To date, the winners have not contacted her. If you are one of the two winners PLEASE contact her with your information. I want her to feel the donation was worth doing…which it was! Thanks…Dan.

When I was busy constructing this year’s WNPA Photographer of the Year image galleries, I ran into this great quote by Ansel Adams, “There are two people in every picture, the photographer, and the viewer.”
I thought it was meaningful because despite the effort, equipment, instinct and luck in making the picture, it’s still up to the viewer to determine exactly what they’re seeing.
This is one of many short-and-sweet observations about our profession. What are some of the good quotes you’ve hung on to?
Also, what is some of the good advice you’ve received that has helped you?

I thought I’d pass this note along.
Mark Hoffman
Mark,
Thank you for your kind note. I hope my wanderings on stage somehow made sense. The mix-up at my office about the time 3:00 vs. 7:00, did throw me a little. Sorry.
I really enjoyed talking to you and your friends after the show.
I felt like I was visiting the Holyland with all the incredible photojournalistic heritage that has
touched my life.
The Hotel Metro was so nice I wanted to stay another day… and the Museum!!!!! I was a little intimidated by that awesome structure. I sent links of the website to all my friends.
Its the second time in a month I’ve crossed paths with a 11/23 person. The other one was a lady doing a long magazine story on me. At the very end of several hours of interview we compared ages. Same day - same year.
I can tell there is never a dull moment around your house. Give my greetings to your wife.
I Hope we connect again Mark, take care.
Jim

David Leeson’s comment on still photographers shooting sloppier images when doing video resonated with me. What a difference that one comment made. I shot this on Monday, although it took me forever to edit:
Video: DNR fishes for answers about walleye population
I thought my shooting was a lot better because it seemed a lot easier to edit and seemed to flow better. So far, I’ve only done videos on my own story ideas and its easier to shoot something I’m interested in. Hopefully, that won’t change.
Feel free to be brutal with your comments. We learn more from our failure than our successes. Thanks
Mark Hoffman
