Visitors to WNPAonline.com have probably noticed a few changes to the overall layout. Here is a rundown on the changes:
1) Added scrollbars to the blogWNPA headline feed and the NPPA headline feed in order to put more news on the page.
2) Gave our four regular columnists some space on our main page to remind viewers that they exist, and take time out of their day to communicate with us. Tom Loucks of the Daily Tribune is our newest columnist with “In the Back Yard.”
3) We’re now posting YouTube stuff. YouTube is a great way to post directly to a weblog, so if you’d like to showcase any of your video work or have a funny clip of a WNPA member on assignment or making a fool of him or herself, let WNPA know or post it yourself.
We’re trying to make the site friendlier and, well, less dull. That includes fun captions for WNPA member pics and seeking out interesting stories from our statewide members. Have one? Let us know.
Mark Hertzberg of the Racine Journal Times and Rick Wood of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel appear in Journal Times video coverage of the Adrial White murder trial. Hertzberg and Wood appear about 1:45 into the 5 minute video as they stand on a bench to get a better shot of the defendant’s sister talking to television reporters. The video appears embedded in this weblog entry and also on YouTube.
In the Backyard is a new photo column in the Daily Tribune (Wisconsin Rapids) by Chief Photographer Tom Loucks.
The photo column is about a fresh view of everyday life in our community.
I came up with the name “in the Backyard” because there are so many stories to be told right in our own community without traveling. I believe that is what local photojournalism is about, telling peoples stories through still pictures and video.
I also decided to write a short story about the subject, by including several of their quotes, so they can express themselves in their own words.
The column runs once a week on Monday’s on our local community page.
I also have included a multi-media presentation on our website wisconsinrapidstribune.com on each column. Some of the columns maybe video and some of the columns maybe using Soundslides with audio.
Here is a PDF of the first photo column, which began in October of this year.
